Full renovation and extension of a Victorian home in Cambridge
When the homeowner embarked on a two-storey extension and full renovation of her Victorian property, she wanted more than a simple refresh.
She hoped to create a home that felt deeply personal, integrated her much-loved existing furniture, and supported both everyday living and large family gatherings.

THE CHALLENGE
The renovation presented both opportunity and complexity. Over the years, the homeowner had accumulated beautiful furniture and was keen to retain these meaningful pieces. Integrating them into a newly extended layout required careful planning.
In her previous home, she had played it safe with neutrals. In this new chapter, she wanted to be braver with colour while still creating a space that would stand the test of time.
The home needed to function effortlessly for day-to-day life, yet adapt comfortably for entertaining extended family and friends.
OUR DESIGN APPROACH
-
Space planning began alongside the architect to ensure the new layout worked for the homeowner’s lifestyle both now and long into the future. Every zone was considered carefully, balancing flow, light and functionality.
-
Rather than starting from scratch, we celebrated the existing furniture. Favourite pieces were thoughtfully positioned within the new layout and complemented by carefully sourced lighting, finishes and select new furnishings.
This layered approach preserved the home’s character while ensuring the extension felt cohesive and intentional.
-
Moving beyond a neutral palette, richer tones and layered textures were introduced throughout the home. The result feels vibrant without being overwhelming, adventurous yet grounded.
Lighting was carefully designed to support both quiet evenings and lively gatherings, ensuring each room works as beautifully for everyday life as it does for hosting.
THE TRANSFORMATION
The completed renovation feels intentional, confident and uniquely personal.
By honouring existing pieces while introducing braver colour and thoughtful space planning, the Victorian property has been transformed into a home that works beautifully for modern life.
This project demonstrates how a full renovation can enhance architectural character while creating interiors that truly reflect the people who live there.
